HeatShield Crown Repair: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
If your chimney crown is cracked, spalling, or letting water into the masonry, a HeatShield crown repair in Orlando typically costs $450 – $900 installed, depending on how much prep work the crown needs before the HeatShield cerfractory sealant goes on. We stock HeatShield CrownCoat and EcoCrown materials on our trucks, so most repairs are completed in a single visit. Most Orlando homeowners discover the problem after a heavy summer storm: water stains on the ceiling near the fireplace, a musty smell from the firebox, or visible cracks in the crown when they check the roof after hurricane season.
The crown is the concrete slab that caps the top of your chimney, and it takes a beating in Central Florida from year-round sun, afternoon downpours, and the occasional cold snap. That weather cycle is what cracks crowns faster here than almost anywhere else in the country.
Which HeatShield Models This Applies To
HeatShield makes two crown repair products we install regularly: CrownCoat, a trowel-applied cerfractory sealant, and EcoCrown, a spray-applied version for larger surface areas. CrownCoat comes in 5-gallon buckets and is best for crowns with hairline cracking and minor surface wear. EcoCrown is the right call when the crown has broader spalling or you want a full encapsulating coat that reaches into the drip edge. Both products are designed to bond directly to masonry and then in the field, the difference that matters is surface prep and coverage depth, not a serial number.
One compatibility gotcha: HeatShield products are engineered to bond to clean, sound masonry. If your crown has a previous silicone-based sealant smeared across it, that has to come off first or the HeatShield won’t adhere properly. That’s the number one reason a HeatShield repair fails, and it’s a prep step we always do before the sealer goes on. We’re an independent Orlando chimney company, not affiliated with HeatShield, but we’ve installed their products for years and stock CrownCoat, EcoCrown, and the FlexSeal reinforcement fabric that pairs with both.

Signs Your HeatShield Crown Repair Is Failing
- Water in the firebox after rain. The crown’s whole job is to shed water away from the flue and masonry. When the HeatShield layer has worn, cracked, or debonded, water finds its way down and ends up in the firebox, often carrying rust stains from the damper.
- White efflorescence on the exterior chimney brick. That chalky mineral residue means water is moving through the masonry. A failed crown seal is usually the entry point, especially if the staining starts near the top of the chimney.
- Spalling brick or flaking mortar near the crown line. In Orlando, trapped moisture plus heat expands and contracts constantly. When the crown can’t keep water out, the top courses of brick start shedding their faces.
- Visible cracking or peeling in the crown’s surface coating. If you can see flaking, bubbling, or hairline cracks in the existing HeatShield layer from the ground or roof, water is already getting underneath it.
- Musty smell near the fireplace. That odor is mold and mildew growing inside the smoke chamber or firebox. It means recurring moisture, and a compromised crown is the most common source.
Cory Mitchell has seen every one of these across Orlando, from the older chimney stacks in College Park to newer construction near Winter Park, and the failure pattern is almost always the same: water got past the seal, and the Florida weather cycle did the rest.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Orlando, a full HeatShield crown repair with proper prep work runs $450 – $900 installed. On the low end, you have a crown with light cracking that needs a wire-brush cleaning, a CrownCoat application, and a flex seal fabric joint at the flue. On the high end, we’re grinding out failing sealant, rebuilding the crown edge with mortar, and applying EcoCrown across the entire surface. The prep labor is the real variable, and we won’t know the final number until we actually see the crown up close.
What you get at every price point: a written price before work begins, photos of the before and after, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise on the repair. If the repair fails within a year, we’re back out at no charge. No exceptions, no fine print, no chasing us for it.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the inspection part yourself. Look for visible cracks in the crown, check for water stains on the ceiling near the chimney, and peek at the firebox after a heavy rain. That tells you whether you have a problem worth acting on. What you shouldn’t do is climb onto your Orlando roof with a bucket of sealant and a trowel. Most crown damage is invisible to an untrained eye, especially in the drip edge and where the flue tile meets the crown. One missed prep step and you’ve spent a Saturday coating over a surface the sealer can’t bond to.
I’d rather text you the photo and let you decide than talk you into something you can’t see for yourself. Call Hadley Chimney Orlando at (904) 822-8172 and we’ll schedule the inspection, get on the roof, and put the evidence on your phone.
FAQs
A properly prepped and applied HeatShield crown repair lasts 7 to 10 years in Central Florida before the surface begins to show meaningful wear. The Florida sun and storm cycles shorten the life compared to drier climates, which is why annual inspections catch early surface cracking before water gets through. Call (904) 822-8172 to schedule an inspection and see what your crown looks like up close.
Yes, and that’s exactly what HeatShield CrownCoat and EcoCrown are for. Full crown replacement involves breaking out the old concrete and repouring, at two to three times the cost. If the masonry underneath is sound, a cerfractory sealant repair restores function for a fraction of that price. We’ll give you a straight answer on which route makes sense once we see the crown.
A typical HeatShield crown repair takes three to five hours on site, including prep, application, and photo documentation. The HeatShield material needs 24 to 48 hours to fully cure before it’s exposed to heavy rain, so we watch the Orlando forecast closely and will reschedule if a storm is tracking in.
We stock HeatShield CrownCoat, EcoCrown, and the FlexSeal fabric on our trucks, alongside materials from DuraFlex and Gelco for liner and chase work. That means a crown repair that looks straightforward from the inspection photos can usually be done the same day without a second trip for materials.
